The Institute partnered with South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) in Cape Town for an important Roundtable to explore a shared South Africa, Australia and India agenda on Indian Ocean human security.
South Africa plays an important bridging role in Indian Ocean Rim Association, importantly so as it ascends to the G20 presidency in 2025.
CEO Lisa Singh spoke to the importance of highlighting the Western Indian ocean strategy and how it can advance the oceans agenda. This roundtable builds on the Institute’s Kolkata Dialogue on island states resilience held last year. It exemplified was the need to support more opportunities to collaborate within regional organisations like Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) .
