Education is a flagship sector driving bilateral engagement between Australia and India. Higher education engagement between the two countries has grown rapidly over the past two decades. The Institute is proud to launch its Mapping Higher Education Engagement Between Australia and India: A Compendium report.
This report shows just how important education and research is to strengthening Australia-India relations and developing workforces of the future. Expanding collaborative ties is driven by the increasing recognition of the mutual benefits of partnerships for growth and innovation in higher education. Mapping Higher Education Engagement between Australia and India is a compendium which provides a ‘stocktake’ of the growth and activities through formalised partnerships between Australian and Indian higher education institutions (HEIs). It comprises of the engagement survey data collected biennially by Universities Australia (UA) between 2007 and 2021 from its member universities, publicly available information from university, government and research intelligence websites, and interviews with university representatives.
The research looked at 38 Australian universities- and found Australian and Indian higher education institutions already share more than 400 partnerships. It offers key insights regarding the diverse aspects of education engagement which include academic mobility, student articulation, pathways programs, joint degree and doctorate programs, and research collaboration.
The Compendium is intended to serve as a guide for multiple stakeholders in the higher education sector in Australia and India. It can be used as a reference for university administrators, governments, and education researchers for evaluating internationalisation policies and developing strategies for future expansion and diversification of existing relationships.
