Thank you and highlights from the Australia-India Institute
December 2022
From the CEO
As Australia’s only research and policy think tank dedicated to the Australia-India relationship, the Institute has been at the forefront of strengthening the relationship between both countries in 2022 through cutting edge research, policy dialogues and facilitating high level engagement between government, business, and academia.
Our four program areas – security and geopolitics; trade and investment; international education and cultural diplomacy have driven our work agenda.
I want to thank the many Indian and Australian think tanks, experts and fellows who have contributed significantly to these areas. Their input is crucial to help us tell the story of the significant and growing relationship between Australia and India.
Reflecting on the year, there are so many highlights that we created a short video snapshot. Please watch it below.
For me personally, it was the more unique things that left an enduring impact, such as hosting India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar for a closed-door roundtable with Indian students to enquire on their welfare living in Australia through the pandemic.
Our engagement with the Indian diaspora to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence through our India Matters program and associated gala event; and curating and co-chairing the Australia India Leadership Dialogue in New Delhi were milestones that also stay with me.
I sincerely thank the Institute’s team for their hard work in 2022, in particular Dr Karen Barker for her valuable work on our important Australian and Victorian government projects, particularly our bilateral education program.
Have a wonderful festive season!
Lisa
