Professor Abid Khan joined ACU as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) in November 2022. He previously held appointments at Monash University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Global Engagement), Pro Vice-Chancellor (Industry Engagement and Commercialisation), Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), Director for the Institute of Nanosciences, as well as senior positions spanning an array of research, innovation, strategy development and external engagement projects. He has been particularly instrumental in driving a number of regional and national centres and strategies in the med-tech and enviro-tech areas.

 Prior to moving to Australia in 2006 Professor Khan held research and industry roles in the UK and USA, including as Deputy Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology, a unique research centre cross-linking capabilities at University College London and Imperial College London, which he helped establish and where he also developed Bio-Nano Consulting as an industry facing unit of the centre.

He has also held positions chairing or as an advisor on global university research and education bodies such as the Monash Warwick Alliance, Go8 Global Engagement Group, Victoria’s International Education Advisory Council and the Australia-India Institute at University of Melbourne, as well as consultancy work with universities, private organisations and government agencies.

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), Professor Khan brings a wealth of domestic and international expertise in driving research innovation, building research capacity, and generating impactful outcomes through fostering a far-reaching network of researchers, industry partners and investors.
