As India modernises and builds its armed forces, opportunities abound for Victorian defence firm to collaborate with Indian companies in developing technology and selling products and services. This policy brief provides an overview of the current geopolitical context, India’s defence acquisition policies, as well as the opportunities and challenges for Victorian defence firms that may be interested in doing business in India.
This policy brief outlines various opportunities and challenges associated with the participation by Victorian enterprises in India’s defence sector, as well as outlining some of the services available to Victorian firms which intend to do business in India. The paper is not a comprehensive guide, but rather a primer for Victorian business executives who wish to explore the Indian market.
This policy brief is an outcome of a roundtable on Victoria-India Defence Tech Collaboration held on 13 June 2023 by the Australia India Institute in collaboration with the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. The project is funded by the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. This initiative brought together representatives from Victorian defence sector companies, Team Defence Australia, Austrade and Indian experts to discuss opportunities and challenges in Australia-India defence technology collaboration.
