Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on his third official visit to Australia. He’ll receive a rockstar welcome from the Indian diaspora here, with a sold-out stadium event in Melbourne that’s expected to attract more than 20,000 people. But the visit is also a chance for Australian PM Anthony Albanese and Mr Modi to tackle some critical issues in the bilateral relationship, including trade, security and human rights. Lisa Singh is a former Australian Senator and was the first woman of South Asian heritage to be elected to the Australian Parliament. She is now CEO of the Australia India Institute and spoke to The World’s Girish Sawlani about the significant of the Indian PM’s visit.
