Sustainable Economies
The Sustainable Economies program focuses on the complementary economic relationship between Australia and India, through providing research, analysis and commentary on opportunities and challenges in the clean energy, sustainability and decarbonisation space.
The Sustainable Economies program focuses on sustainability in bilateral trade and investment, with a view to deepening economic ties between both countries. As the world strives to reduce global, emissions, Australia and India hold a unique opportunity to lead on the clean energy transition and become renewable energy superpowers. This is in context with the Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA).
Forging international links with India requires engagement with a wide set of stakeholders, including government, industry, and academia. The role of the Indian diaspora in Australia is also a key asset in supporting sustainable economic relations, and the Australia India Institute remains committed to engaging communities, businesses, professionals and emerging leaders in the clean energy, sustainability, and decarbonisation space.
In 2024, the Institute chose to rename this program from Bilateral Economy to Sustainable Economies – in order to be more closely aligned with the global economic challenges of energy security and climate change impacting the Australia-India relationship.
