The Institute supported the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences on the successful ‘Celebrating the University of Melbourne’s Health Partnerships in India: 150th Anniversary Celebration’ at the Melbourne Global Centre – Delhi.
The evening reflected on the number of individuals and organisations whose vision, generosity, expertise and friendship have made these partnerships possible, including AII Academic Fellow, Professor Nathan Grills, who has been integral to the development of partnerships between the Faculty and India.
Following opening remarks by Professor Nathan Grills, AII CEO Lisa Singh moderated a panel discussion featuring Shri Rajeev Sharma (Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities), Dr Deepak Samson Singh (Emmanuel Hospital Association), Professor Monika Arora (Public Health Foundation of India) and Sara Varughese (CBM India).
The discussion explored the impact of decades of Australia–India collaboration and future opportunities in tobacco control, disability, mental health, cost-effective healthcare and research.
During the event, the report ‘Celebrating the University of Melbourne’s Health Partnerships in India’ was launched. Prepared by the Australia India Institute in collaboration with the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the report highlights the Faculty’s longstanding engagement with India, recognising the partners who have advanced health research, education and care while shaping a shared vision for the future of healthcare across both countries.
