The Australia India Institute was honoured to host Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Honourable Dan Tehan for the launch of the India Economic Strategy Update Report and the Indian Diaspora Mapping Report at the University of Melbourne.
Both policy documents were discussed in a conversation between Minister Tehan and Jennifer Westacott AO, Chief Executive of the Business Council of Australia, moderated by the Hon Lisa Singh.
Key issues that were discussed included the government’s efforts to reach an interim deal as part of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), what it takes for businesses to be successful in India, raising Australia’s “India literacy” among boards, c-suites and the wider community, and emerging sectors identified in the IES Update which show great promise such as critical minerals and rare earths.
The event saw a wide range of stakeholders attend including government, industry groups, corporate leaders, business champions and other outspoken advocates of the Australia-India relationship.
The Institute will support the delivery of these two important policy documents to ensure the bilateral economic engagement between both nations continues to reach new heights.
