The Institute has received funding from the Centre for Australia India Relations Maitri Fellowship Program for 2025. Awarded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Fellowship will bring Dr Preeti Mudliar from Bangalore to Melbourne to work with the Australia India Institute on digital governance.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced the funding and the three recipients of the Maitri Fellowship Program, which includes Dr Mudliar, on 13 July 2025.
Dr Mudliar will spend 12 months with the Australia India Institute, based at the University of Melbourne, to explore her cutting-edge work on digital identity and governance systems issues in India, building on her previous work examining how to enhance the effectiveness and inclusivity of digital infrastructure in both countries.
The Institute’s CEO Lisa Singh said the Institute was fortunate to have Dr Mudliar join the Institute as a Maitri Fellow to contribute to thought leadership.
“We are thrilled to have the chance to work with Dr Mudliar at our Institute and have her contribute her research to an Australian audience that will further deepen cooperation and understanding between Australia and India.”
