Australian and Indian defence industry experts, government representatives and industry stakeholders will identify new opportunities to advance Australia India Defence Industry co-operation at a roundtable held alongside Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition 2026 today in Perth, Western Australia.
The Australia India Defence Industry Roundtable, hosted by the Australia India Institute and supported by the Australian Government Department of Defence, will aim to strengthen bilateral defence-industry cooperation between Australia and India.
As Australia and India enter a new phase of defence cooperation, the challenge remains how to move beyond dialogue and existing cooperation towards practical defence-industry capability. This Roundtable will create practical pathways toward a more integrated defence-industry relationship, identifying areas of common ground, analysing each nation’s defence priorities, policy settings and industry capabilities, and establishing how Australia-India defence technology collaboration can be better integrated to build future industry partnerships.
This roundtable forms part of the Institute’s Defence Program, building off the inaugural Australia India Defence Conclave last year which examined how policy makers can convert political intent into practical defence capabilities.
Australia India Institute CEO Lisa Singh said the roundtable would contribute to a more secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific through deeper defence industry cooperation and strengthened research, policy and industry engagement between Australia and India.
“Australia and India are increasingly looking to each other as trusted partners in navigating a period of profound regional change,” she said.
“This Roundtable creates space for practical problem-solving and new ideas, connecting policy, research and industry expertise to identify opportunities that advance both our national interests and our shared vision for the Indo-Pacific.”
Varun Ghosh, Senator for Western Australia, said these discussions are important.
“Australia and India’s growing defence partnership represents a significant opportunity to strengthen regional stability and security in the Indo-Pacific,” he said.
“Our cooperation reflects a shared commitment to a peaceful, prosperous region that is governed by a rules-based system and delivers practical outcomes that enhance collective security.”
