a new defence program and celebrating our diaspora links
February 2023
From the CEO
As 2023 gets underway, the momentum between Australia and India continues to take centre stage. The commencement of the Border-Gavaskar men’s trophy series in Nagpur is a much anticipated contest between two of the world’s leading cricket nations.
As part of building our bilateral ties, the India Australia Business and Community Alliance will be held in New Delhi for the first time. The four-day immersion will include panel discussions on a soft power approach to raising literacy between our two nations and the awards gala dinner.
The Institute launched its new Defence Program at Parliament House in Canberra during the first sitting week of 2023 with a keynote from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, the Hon. Richard Marles MP who spoke on the importance of our bilateral defence relationship and how it can be shaped and enhanced to create a peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific region. The program will be run by our Program Director, Dr David Brewster.
I would like to give my warm congratulations to Professor Chennupati Jagadish, President of the Australian Academy of Science for being awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award for 2023 for his contributions and outstanding achievements in science, technology and education. Professor Jagadish was awarded by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu in a ceremony in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He is an exemplar of the incredible contribution members of the Indian diaspora make to Australian society and the lifelong connections they carry for both nations.
Best wishes,
Lisa
