In Conversation with Dr Shashi Tharoor MP
The Australia India Institute and Maurice Blackburn lawyers hosted an exciting, invite-only lunch event with Indian Member of Parliament, Dr. Shashi Tharoor MP and with opening remarks from Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, The Hon Tim Watts MP.
With 23 years of experience as a senior UN diplomat and the current Chair of Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, Dr Tharoor’s insightful answers to questions from the Institute’s CEO the Hon. Lisa Singh delved into his diplomatic and political achievements, those who have influenced him, his lifetime connections to India and its place in the world, the current global geopolitical shifts and impact of the US election outcome, and the importance of the Australia India relationship.
Dr Tharoor is a fourth-term Member of Parliament representing Thiruvananthapuram, in the state of Kerala, India. He is also a celebrated author of 26 books, most recently, A Wonderland of Words in 101 Essays and is renowned for his eloquence and mastery of the English language. Dr. Tharoor has won multiple awards including the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, a Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and the Crossword Lifetime Achievement Award.
