With the American-Israeli war against Iran in its fourth week, the impacts are starting to be felt across Australia and the region. Wishing everybody and their families and friends across the globe safety and peace as we continue to follow daily developments.
This conflict was front of mind as our team and I attended the Raisina Dialogue in Delhi this month. With delegates from more than 130 countries, this multilateral event is critical to discussing the pressing issues facing the Indo-Pacific region. To understand the Raisina Dialogue more, watch our explainer reel here. Thank you to the host, ORF, for inviting me to moderate a panel on US-India relations and participate in how US allies are reassessing their strategies under the current Trump administration.
The Institute was proud to host a panel event at the Melbourne Global Centre – Delhi, reflecting on ‘Two Decades of Australia-India Relations: Reflections from High Commissioners Past and Present’. Featuring current and former Australian High Commissioners to India, John McCarthy AO, Patrick Suckling, and Philip Green OAM, the panel highlighted key developments in Australia India relations across a defining two decades, with opening remarks by Indian Member of Parliament, Dr Shashi Tharoor.
I was pleased to once again be in India for International Women’s Day. This year I gave an address to the students of Miranda House, at the University of Delhi. Their questions both challenged me and inspired me on how the next generation is addressing gender equality issues, security and peace. My sincere gratitude to Miranda House, Professor Hena Singh from the Policy Centre and Gender Lab and the Bharatedge Foundation for hosting the seminar.
Finally, wishing everyone celebrating a belated happy Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Ram Navami and Eid-Al-Fitr, and a peaceful Easter break.
Best,
Lisa
