Australia, India and the World: Geopolitical Challenges and Prospects for Prosperity in the Region
The Australia India Institute, in partnership with the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Arts, had a panel discussion with Former Indian Ambassador, His Excellency Anil Wadhwa, Distinguished Fellow of the Institute and Chancellor of the University of Queensland, Mr Peter Varghese AO and Deputy Associate Dean International (India) at The University of Melbourne, Dr Pradeep Taneja on advancing Australia and India’s strategic economic and geopolitical partnerships in the Indo-Pacific Region.
The panel was moderated by Australia India Institute CEO Lisa Singh, who brought her own expertise into this conversation. The trio discussed the contemporary policy settings and opportunities that India’s economic growth, security and geopolitical positioning presents for Australia and the Indo-Pacific region.
As a distinguished Indian diplomat and the former Secretary (EAST) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassador Anil Wadhwa has significantly contributed to strengthening India-Australia relations. In December 2020, he authored the first of its kind Australia Economic Strategy (AES) report on behalf of India. This complements the ‘India Economic Strategy to 2035’ authored by Mr Peter Varghese AO for the Australian Goverment.
