Clean energy is a strategic element in the Australia India relationship. There is significant scope to build on our traditional links through clean energy as both countries position to be renewable energy superpowers. Energy transition is set to be a major engine for the bilateral relationship into the future. But presently, bilateral understanding of the opportunities, links and initiatives is underdeveloped.
The Australia India Institute hosted the Australia India Renewables Dialogue on Tuesday 16th July in Sydney. The Track 1.5 convened together leaders from government, academia, business and industry to unlock opportunities to help both Australia and India to decarbonise their economies and diversify supply chains.
India’s extraordinary progress toward meeting its target of 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030 is creating significant opportunities for Australia, across areas of policy, financial investment, technological capabilities, and material development. Similarly, there is significant scope for India to become a much bigger part of Australia’s energy transition, including as a major investor with opportunities for innovation, manufacturing, skills and jobs.
