The Toolkit for Teaching Applied Learning is a collaborative initiative that aims to provide secondary school teachers in India and Australia with practical, evidence-based resources to support effective applied learning pedagogies.
The Toolkit will offer a range of strategies, techniques, and best practices designed to facilitate teachers’ professional development in applied pedagogies and classroom practices.
It will be promoted to key stakeholders, including school leadership, teachers, government education departments, teacher professional development bodies, and community organisations in both countries.
The project is being led by the Australia India Institute in collaboration with:
- The Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)
- The Centre for Accessibility in the Global South, International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB)
- The Faculty of Education, University of Melbourne (UoM)
Two hybrid workshops – held in Bengaluru in July and Melbourne in October – brought together education researchers, school educators, leadership, and teacher professional development bodies in Australia and India to exchange core principles and practices underlying applied learning design and delivery in schools. An online workshop, designed specifically for Indian secondary school teachers, focused on gathering classroom insights, ensuring the Toolkit reflects teachers’ real-world experiences.
Following these workshops, the project has entered its final stage – the preparation and refinement of the completed Toolkit, drawing on all workshop outcomes.
This initiative is supported by the Australian Government Department of Education.
