A huge thank you to Australian High Commissioner to India, H.E. Barry O’Farrell who is finishing his posting in New Delhi for his significant contribution to the Australia India relationship. The Institute has enjoyed working with Barry and would like to thank him for his support for the Institute. We look forward to working with Philip Green when he starts as the new Head of Mission in Delhi.
I also recently had the opportunity to join a panel for the inaugural Quad Fellowship Summit that empowers the next generation of STEM leaders and builds ties between the four Quad countries, Australia, India, Japan and the United States. It was wonderful to meet these intelligent fellows as well as Ambassador Caroline Kennedy who addressed this inaugural event.
The Institute continues to partner with other think tanks and organisations: a huge thank you to Griffith Asia Institute for inviting me to give a lecture in Brisbane at GOMA on “Putting the ‘Indo’ in the Pacific“. And I’m looking forward to speaking at the Asia Society for a masterclass for young career professionals. Our Defence Program partnered with the Victorian Government for a Roundtable on Defence Tech and we will now develop a policy brief on the outcomes.
Finally, the Institute is going through a new phase of growth as we pack up and move office to our new corporate premises. I am also excited to share that former Nine and SBS journalist Shuba Krishnan has been appointed as Head of Communications at the Australia India Institute. With more than 10 years’ experience in Australian and international media, Shuba’s appointment will add to the Institute’s depth of experience in the political and media sectors and help build capacity to shape our new growth chapter. Shuba will commence on June 26, replacing Sarah Whyte who will commence maternity leave. We are also saying farewell to Tess Gross who has been one of the longest serving team members of the Institute, for over 13 years. We thank Tess for her many years of support for the Institute and wish her well for the future.
Best,
Lisa
